Suria KLCC Malaysia

Suria KLCC is the name of the shopping mall in the Petronas Towers, which were formerly the tallest buildings in the world, and still the tallest twin towers in the world. While it is a much visited tourist destination, I really don’t see what the hype is all about. If you’ve got that mandatory selfie outside of what is undeniably an extremely beautiful architectural wonder, you really don’t need to go inside. It may have been a big deal once upon a time, but now the only good thing there (in my opinion) is Kinokuniya.

That said, if you do want to go inside (as I do every time I visit Malaysia, because every single time I feel like maybe something worthwhile has opened up), then here’s what you should do: eat, and leave. In fact, you don’t even have to eat, but if you get hunger pangs that cannot wait (like I do), here’s what I suggest:

The mandatory Rotibun if you’re on the run. These are so cheap in Malaysia that they actually even taste better. You have GOT to get yourself one of these buttery buns at least once, trust me. they are actually super hollow on the inside, so they’re not excessively heavy at all.

If you can spare a few minutes, head to the food court that overlooks the fountains, and have yourself a Kaya Butter Toast, Kopi, and soft boiled eggs for a truly comforting breakfast at Old Town Coffee.

If you’re like my husband though, you’ll really need to have Nasi Lemak for breakfast and wash it down with Teh Tarik Ice. Nasi Lemak is as Malaysian as you can get for breakfast. The dish comprises of boiled rice, Sambal, peanuts, crispy anchovies, cucumbers, a fried egg and (if you’re feeling fancy) a piece of fried chicken.

Take the underground tunnel that takes you to the KLCC Aquaria, where you can then exit onto the canopy bridge that takes you to Pavilion Shopping Center. That’s what you need to do if you want to walk, otherwise you can take a GrabCar; either way, go to Pavilion instead of KLCC. It’s only 5 minutes away and so much better.
