Fighting The Cold with Ginger juice

Winter means many things in Dubai: alfresco dining; laying on the beach; pumpkin spice and gingerbread lattes; red, green and gold; BBQs; the annual stollen charity sale; the food truck jam; winter markets; lots of friends, lots of family and lots of joy. Unfortunately for me, it also means getting a cold more often than anyone would like to, and that’s just the biggest killjoy ever.

I don’t believe in flu shots, so I’ve got a pretty standard drill on how to combat a cold. 1. Antihistamines 2. Plenty of rest 3. Plenty of Vitamin C and 4. PLENTY of ginger. Said ginger could be in the form of a warm chicken soup, ginger tea, or in the form of refreshing fresh ginger juice.

I get my ginger fix either by making ginger ribbons with a vegetable peeler and adding them to boiling water to make ginger tea; or I have soup that was heavily spiked with ginger; or I would stop by a Pulp Juice Bar wherever I could and get myself a ginger shot. It burns on it’s way down in a way that you just know is fixing the damage done to your esophagus.

Here’s the recipe to my super simple but super effective Cold-fighting juice. It yields about four tall glasses.

Fighting The Cold with Ginger juice

Ingredients

  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 4 carrots
  • 1 pineapple (I had no pineapple during the photography for this post)
  • 2 green apples
  • Ginger......about the size of a 4 year old's hand.

Instructions

  1. Chop the ingredients into small enough pieces big enough to fit the feed-tube of your juicer.
  2. Let your husband clean the juicer once you’re done (preferably sooner rather than later).
  3. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and guzzle down that ginger juice like a golden fire that will burn away all the misery of the wrath of the itchy and scratchy throat.
