My maternal uncle, aunt and favorite cousin (Hiba) were in town last week, and of course we had a smashing good time. We ate till we could no longer eat, walked till our legs gave up on us, and of course binge watched absolute rubbish till the we hours of the morning. Of the many enjoyable meals we had, the most memorable thing we ate would have to be the pancakes from Clinton Street Baking Company in City Walk 2!
Everything was perfect about the morning: the skies were grey (a rare treat in the golden desert called Dubai), the breeze was pleasantly chilly, it was slightly drizzling, and our spirits were high! It was the perfect morning for breakfast, because let’s face it- breakfast is my perpetually sleepy family’s favorite meal of the day. Without breakfast to look forward to or jobs to get to, us folk would most probably sleep till noon.
We chose the City Walk 2 branch because of course, what better place to celebrate good weather?
We tried a handful of things at Clinton Street Baking Company, but our favorite were the pancakes, waffle with fried chicken, and of course the salted caramel shake.
Just so you know, here’s what we had:
Loaded potato skins: these disappeared almost as soon as they made it to the table!
Spanish omelette: one of the better things we had.
Huevos Rancheros: quite disappointing. The “salsa” tasted like unseasoned canned tomatoes (although they were fresh). The only passable thing on the plate was the guacamole.
Fried chicken and waffles. The money shot. The show stopper. The main thing I really went to Clinton Street Baking Company for. The chicken fillet was thin, tender, and perfectly seasoned. The waffle was perfectly crisp on the outside, soft on the inside and batter was delicious! Drizzled with maple butter, this is a dish I’ve been dreaming of since I had it.
The pancakes. I went in Feb, which is the official Pancake Month at Clinton Street Baking Company, so needless to say, I was very excited about the pancakes. During Pancake Month, there is a new, extremely creative pancake flavor every 2-3 days. What I did not expect, however, is how unbelievably, insanely awesome the pancakes would be. Ladies and gentlemen, I am a person who didn’t believe in ordering pancakes outside (this includes IHOP), because I always felt I can make them better at home. For the first time in my life, I was floored by the pancakes at a restaurant. I can’t begin to understand just how these pancakes were so ridiculously light and fluffy, and melted in our mouths! Truth be told, we regretted filling ourselves up on so many savory items, and wished we had saved room for more pancakes.
I think I’m going to head out right after I “publish”, and treat myself to a stack of pancakes with a side of waffle and fried chicken.
