Oat Apple Crumble | Recipe

April 11, 2017 , Haiya

I love oats, not just for breakfast, but also in desserts. I’m one of those people who is not disappointed to find a “chocolate chip” cookie is actually an oat-and-raisin. Oat Apple Crumble is, in fact, one of my favorite go-to recipes. I make it so often that it has become one of my signature recipes, and I’m surprised I haven’t shared it already.

Every time there is a dinner at my house, or a potluck at friend’s, oat apple crumble is what I’ll make when I’m strapped for time and energy.  It’s also foolproof, and is one of those recipes you can totally get away with eyeballing. Exact measurements will not be a worry with this oat apple crumble. What’s more, the ingredients are always, always on hand.

This apple crumble has an explosion of complementary but contrasting flavors. You get the tartness from the soft apples, and the sweetness from the crunchy crumble…it’s all really perfect. If you pair it with ice cream, then you’ve got the whole hot and cold thing going on too!

Here’s the recipe!

Serves 4:

Ingredients:

  • 3 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 cup Quick Oats
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Method:

  1. Roughly chop up apples and toss them in 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
  2. In a separate bowl, mix all other remaining ingredients. Mix until they form a crumbly mixture.
  3. Spray 6 x 6 inch baking dish with butter or oil
  4. Dump the apples into baking dish
  5. Top with crumble
  6. Bake in preheated oven at 175 degrees for 25-35 minutes.
  7. Serve this oat apple crumble with greek yogurt or ice cream.
