WTF Brunch Weslodge Dubai

September 7, 2019 , Haiya

I get asked all the time for breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch recommendations, and recently realized that I haven’t written about many brunches over the last year or so because I haven’t really tried many worth writing about. Spoke too soon, because over the last couple of months, I’ve tried a streak of really good brunches, ranging from the very class BB DIFC Friday brunch, to the Indian dream brunch at Carnival by Tresind, to the best party brunch in Dubai: the WTF Brunch at Weslodge Dubai.

The common thread between all these brunches is that they’re all a la carte brunches, and the WTF Brunch Weslodge Dubai managed to be a party brunch that was actually so much fun but not sleazy. I always love the music at Weslodge (it’s very throwback Thursday for the 90s kid I am), and while it’s still eclectic, it’s so much better than the horrific and obnoxiously loud remixes at brunches like Wanderlust.

Like all a la carte brunches (to my knowledge) the WTF Brunch Weslodge Dubai also grants you unlimited rounds of starters, salads, sides and desserts but only one main per person. I’m ok with that, because the starters are always my favorite part of every meal anyway, but that doesn’t mean the mains weren’t something to write home about.

The one thing that disappointed me about this brunch was the cocktails/mocktails selection. I always rave about how Weslodge Dubai always boast the widest variety of the the most balanced and refreshing mocktails in Dubai (perhaps not always on the menu, but the bartender is always kind enough to oblige), but sadly the selection at the brunch was minimal and half-hearted. I know, I know, I’m not the target demographic, and not a lot of non-drinkers go for brunches, so I’ll cut to chase and get right to how great the food was.

Here’s what we had and you can too:

Popcorn as soon as you’re seated, but to be honest who wants to waste their appetite on cold popcorn, amirite?

The Weslodge Chop, a salad with avocado, goat cheese and dill vinaigrette.

Ahi tuna tartare with avocado, celery, yuzu, hot sauce and black sesame crackers. This was one of the things I requested a repeat order of because it was pretty much all my favorite ingredients in one dish!

The piece de resistance: the famous Weslodge Fried Chicken. It’s boneless, its crispy, it’s friggin’ delicious. I think we ordered 3 plates of these, and if one goes to the Weslodge brunch just to eat fried chicken, it would still be worth it. The only thing I’d love is a side of buffalo sauce. mmmMMM.

Another favorite and ordered twice: the Hibachi on crispy black rice with a ginger soy glaze and dollop of chili mayo. Textural contrast so good it made me miss my buddy AtoZaatar / Courtney Brandt.

Grilled chicken wings and spice rubbed lamb ribs.

For mains, the 4 of us decided to order only 3 and share because we were quite full and hate wastage. First up: this grilled seabed with jalapeño relish, lemon and olive oil. Nice and simple, and good for the less adventurous.

The best main you can order is the Wagyu tenderloin steak. Years on, Weslodge still serve some of the best steaks in Dubai, way better than any of your Beefbars and what nots.

Vegetarians need not despair either, for the spelt barley risotto was absolute comfort food.

I wasn’t a major fan of the Mac & Cheese side, but to be fair I’m rarely a fan of Mac & Cheese.

I did like the roasted cauliflower with ago black, brown butter vinaigrette and curry leaf.

My favorites from the dessert platter were the ooey, gooey cookie skillet….

….and the praline cheesecake with salted caramel popcorn! YUM.

Prices start at around AED 295, which is actually a really great deal, checking on all boxes from quality, quantity, ambience, and the biggest of all: a la carte. Do go, thank me later.
