Unpopular opinion alert: I went to Cervejario Ramiro a.k.a Ramiro’s and didn’t super love it. It was just OKAY really.
I’d been advised by several people and Youtubers to not miss out on Cervejario Ramiro, but because M and I aren’t ones for fomo and tend to just go with the flow despite always having a detailed excel sheet of things to do, places to see and food to eat, we ended up not going to Ramiro till our very last lunch/meal in Lisbon.
It just so happened by coincidence that we were enjoying the sweeping views of Lisbon’s rooftops from a vantage point close to Sao George’s castle when we decided to go to Ramiro’s for lunch, which happened to be only a short walking distance away, and we had built quite the appetite after our little uphill/downhill hike which is just another normal walk to get from point A to B almost anywhere in Lisbon.
Cervejaria Ramiro is popular, especially amongst the tourists, so a line/waiting list is normal. Luckily, we got there just as lunch service commenced, so we were seated immediately.
The servers were aware enough to not serve us the plate of charcuterie as an appetizer, but did place before us a heaped plate of garlic bread that we gladly accepted.
Our order was short and simple: the garlic clams, and the giant tiger prawns with lots of creamy roe.
Truth: The prawns were overcooked, very hard to separate from the shells, and the roe was more dry than creamy from also being overcooked.
The clams were nice but nothing to write home about or come back for, and the best thing on our table was actually the garlic bread. Prices were reasonable, I can’t recall for sure but I think the entire meal cost us around 45 euros.
I’m glad we tried Cervejaria Ramiro because otherwise I would’ve kept thinking of what we’ve missed out on (not much). I know it’s a different city and hence not a fair comparison, but Matosinhos in Porto was muuuuch better.
