The Dubai Mall is a Narnia not only for retail outlets but also for dining options. It’s latest acquisition is Aubaine, a French restaurant and boulangerie chain from London. It’s sophisticated yet relaxed environment fuses iconic French flair with modern poise. I tried breakfast this new addition earlier this week, and think it’s a welcome addition to the steadily growing list of places offering French cuisine in Dubai.
French breakfast is my favorite kind of breakfast. What’s better than a buttery croissant, cinnamon french toast, and a chocolate crepe? While Aubaine did serve us some gratifying Almond Croissant, and a most perfect French Toast, I was surprised to see that they don’t have any crepes on their menu. I did enjoy a decent plate of Eggs Benedict, and my friend had a Full French, which included 2 eggs (she went for scrambled), kale (which could have used some seasoning), a delicious portobello mushroom, and a minute steak (a pretty decent sized steak). With this we got an aromatic basket of freshly baked bread which I naturally slathered with butter and thoroughly enjoyed.
The piece de resistance was the hazelnut latte. I’m not a coffee person, but according to my friend who is a coffee expert, it was like “velvet is your mouth”. She could not stop raving about it, and she’s not generally an easy person to impress. I on the other hang was very pleased to see that they offer a selection of Jing teas on the menu- one of my favorite tea brands. I hate to be a snob, but I get seriously put off when I go to a nice restaurant and am offered Dilmah or Twinings teas. Fine food calls for fine teas.
Will I be going back? Most certainly, because just as I was leaving, I noticed the delectable selection of pastries that I can’t wait to go back and try with their hazelnut latte.
Thanks for the invite guys.
