Khameer & Dough | UAE doing it’s cosmopolitan thing again.

September 16, 2015 , Passmethedimsum

Khameer & Dough is a homegrown concept that takes something very traditional and native to the UAE, and gives it a – or rather many- modern twist(s).  Still an infant, it has already gained it’s much deserved popularity.

I received a very generous number of Khameer & Dough samples yesterday; enough to be able to photograph them whole, and cut; try each flavor; and then share them with my neighbors.

These guys boast a wide array of flavors, ranging from:

  • Oozing Nutella: The name literally says it all
  • Krazy K: This one’s filled with Kinder
  • The All American: This one’s got an apple pie filling and a cinnamon-icing sugar dusting.

The All American

  • Pretty In Pink: Rose flavored; this one really stood out, both in color and taste.
  • Lotus Biscoff: But of course. Perhaps the biggest hit of the year; how could Lotus Biscoff not be one of their flavors?

  • All-time Favorite: These guys know me. Peanut butter and strawberry jam is certainly one of my all-time favorite flavors.

All Time Favorite

  • It’s Thyme: Cleverly named; this one is also one of my favorite flavors: Zaaaaaatar!

  • Magnificent Duo: Wait, I stand corrected; THIS is is one of my all-time favorites : Zaatar mixed with akkawi cheese
  • The Foursome: This was a mash-up of Halloumi, Feta, Parmesan, Mozarella and Parsley. Uh, yum.

The Foursome

  • The Batata: This one’s filled with a flavorsome slow-cooked potatoes. I love the name, because “Batatas” is “Potatoes” in Arabic.
  • Cheesy Chips: A flavor combo that was born in the UAE; Omani Chips and cream cheese are a match made in heaven. I am yet to meet a person who does not fall flat in love with this flavor at first bite.

Cheesy Chips

  • Mishawa: The original Khameer; this one has no filling but only a brush of some good, home-made mishawa. Mishawa is an Emirati version of fish sauce.

Of all the flavors, if I had to pick my two favorites, they would be the Pretty in Pink, Cheesy Chips.

Also, I definitely preferred the regular/large size over the small/mini ones. I felt that the larger ones were lighter, more hollow on the inside, and had the capacity to hold a lot more filling. I enjoyed that. The smaller ones to me felt very similar to the  Mo’ajjanaat that I grew up eating in Saudi. They were more dough-ey and the filling and topping on them felt sparse in comparison to the large ones. M, however, loved the small ones too, so I guess it’s a matter of preference.

A couple of my neighbors, who tried some of the Khameers too, absolutely loved them and said they’re a much better, less sickeningly sweet alternative to donuts. M is a definite fan.

I really hope this brand gains the popularity the deserve for a truly unique and well executed concept. They are open for delivery and take-away. You can find them on Instagram under the handle @khameeranddough; or give them a call on 04-399 9599
